Come make pancakes with me!

One free hour on a Saturday afternoon. You bake in your own kitchen, I talk you through every step as you go, and we eat what we made at the end.

Five people a session, so it stays a conversation. No card, and nothing to install beyond a video link.

The hour, minute by minute

You bake. I coach. Nothing is a demonstration.

You cook, and somebody is watching who can tell you what to fix while there's still time to fix it.

First 5 min

What we're making, and what's on your counter

Cameras on and counters checked. I ask everyone to have their camera on and pointed at the counter, because I can only coach what I can actually see. Your face doesn't have to be in shot, and if you would rather keep the camera off entirely that's fine too.

40 min

We bake it together, one step at a time

I name the step, I show you the step, you do the step, and I tell you how it went. Then the next one. I'm baking alongside you the whole way, not narrating from a finished bowl.

10 min

We eat

Questions, second helpings, and what to do differently next time.

Last 5 min

Where to go next, if you want to

I'll tell you about the eight week series at the end. And if you only ever come for the free hour, that's a completely fine thing to do!

How I teach

I teach baking the way I teach everything else.

I'm a behavior analyst. My working life is breaking a skill into pieces small enough that a person gets each one right, and then getting out of the way as fast as they will let me. Batter is no different.

01

Every step gets named

"Cream the butter" is four things. You'll be told all four.

02

Help that fades

I say less every time you need me to say less. By the end I'm mostly quiet.

03

Nothing gets rushed

Five people in the room means there's time to wait while you actually do it.

What you need in your kitchen

Nothing here costs more than a few dollars and you very likely have most of it already. I send the exact quantities and a one page prep sheet the day you sign up.

No stand mixer. No scale. No special pan. If you own a frying pan and a bowl you're equipped.

  • Flour, sugar, baking powder, salt
  • Milk, one egg, a little butter
  • A bowl, a whisk, a measuring cup
  • A frying pan or a griddle
  • A phone or laptop with a camera, propped where I can see your counter
  • An hour where nobody needs you
Save your place

Two Saturdays. Five people each.

Tell me which one and I'll send the link, the ingredient list and the prep sheet.

This is where the link and the prep sheet go.

Which Saturday

Optional. Allergies, how much baking you have done, what you're hoping for.

Adults 18 and over for now. I'll email you about this class and about Well-Risen. One click unsubscribes and I'll not pass your address to anyone.

You're on the list!

Check your inbox. The confirmation and the ingredient list are on their way now, and the joining link comes the evening before the class so it's at the top of your inbox rather than buried. If nothing arrives within a few minutes, look in spam and then email me.

If you already know you want the whole thing

The eight week series starts Saturday 3 October.

Cookies, brownies, quick breads and cakes, one hour a week, five students. The founding cohort is $249 instead of $408 and there are five places.
